The Azerbaijani U-20 men's freestyle wrestling team concluded the European Championships in Skopje, North Macedonia, with a historic performance.
Offsideplus.az reports that our national team showcased great resilience, capturing 2 gold, 2 silver, and 4 bronze medals. Accumulating a total of 170 points, the team finished second in the overall team standings. Russia claimed the top spot with 194 points, while Armenia rounded out the top three with 118 points.
By securing their highest-ever tally in both total points and medals, the national team successfully shattered two records simultaneously.
Led by head coach Ashraf Aliyev and coaches Rovshan Hajiyev, Nazim Alicanov, and Asgarkhan Novruzov, Haci Karimov (70 kg) and Yusif Dursunov (125 kg) became European champions. Jamal Abbasov (61 kg) and Nurlan Aghazada (74 kg) took home silver medals, while Muhammad Ismayilov (57 kg), Bashir Verdiyev (65 kg), Mahammad Abbaszade (86 kg), and Farhad Suleymanli (97 kg) earned bronze.
