Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestlers have earned a chance to compete for bronze medals at the European Championships held in Tirana, Albania.
Offsideplus.az reports that three of our representatives — Rashad Mammadov (55 kg), Islam Abbasov (87 kg), and Beka Kandelaki (130 kg) — will battle for a spot on the podium.
In the semifinal stage, Beka Kandelaki faced Darius Vitek from Hungary. Although the match ended in a 1-1 draw, the opponent was declared the winner based on the first-point principle, leaving Kandelaki just one step away from the final. Our other representative, Islam Abbasov, lost to Bulgaria's Semyon Novikov with a score of 0-4, earning the right to compete in the bronze medal match.
Rashad Mammadov's chance for a bronze medal depended on his opponent's success. As Emin Sefershaev (UWW), who defeated Rashad in the quarterfinals, reached the final, our wrestler gained the opportunity to compete in the repechage rounds.
