The Azerbaijani freestyle wrestling team started competing at the world championship today.

Offsideplus.az reports that Nuraddin Novruzov in the 61 kg. weight category lost to Iranian Ahmad Mohammadnejadjavan in the 1/8 finals with a score of 2:5. Kenan Heybatov, who competed in the 70 kg. weight category, defeated Iranian, two-time world championship silver medalist Amirmohammad Yazdanicherati (15:4) and representative of the Bahamas Shannon Hanna (10:0). He lost to Armenian European champion Arman Andreasyan in the 1/4 finals with a score of 6:8.

Arseniy Dzhioyev (86 kg.) Although he defeated Puerto Rico's Etan Ramos with a score of 5:2, he lost to Japanese Hayato Ishiguro in the 1/4 finals with a score of 8:13.

125 kg. Giorgi Meshvildishvili, who competes in the 100 kg weight class, has registered his name in the semifinals. He defeated Uzbek Khasanboy Rakhimov and Hungarian Vladislav Baytsayev with the same score (7:0) to reach the semifinals of the world championship for the first time in his career. Giorgi will face Polish Robert Baran in the semifinals.

The semifinal matches will start at 21:00 Baku time.
