AFFA Referees Committee Chairman Frank De Bleecker assessed the controversial episodes in the match between "Sabah" and "Sumgayit" held in the 6th round of the Azerbaijani Premier League.
Offsideplus.az reports that he said the following about the cancellation of the goals:
"In the 78th minute, Sabah striker Joy Lance Mikels scored a goal during the attack. VAR checks the episode and sees that Rahman Dashdamirov, after playing the ball at the beginning of the attack, carelessly hits Sumgayit player Nihad Ahmadzadeh on the leg. VAR invites the referee to watch the episode. After watching the video footage, the referee explains the situation to both captains and cancels the goal, awards a free kick in favor of Sumgayit and shows a yellow card to the Sabah player for careless play. This is the correct decision of the referee and the correct intervention of VAR. In the 90+2 minute, C.L. Mikels receives the ball in the penalty area and scores a goal. VAR checks the episode and sees that the Sabah striker touched the ball with his hand before scoring the goal. According to the rules, if a player allows a handball before scoring the goal, the goal should be canceled. This is "it always happens - whether it's intentional or accidental. VAR informs the referee and the referee disallows the goal. This is the correct decision of the referee and the correct intervention of VAR".
It should be noted that the match in question ended in a 1-1 draw.
