Azerbaijan has officially joined the international STEM Racing program, supported by Formula 1.
Offsideplus.az reports that the project, implemented in the country by the Baku City Circuit Operations Company, aims to promote engineering education and equip youth with the essential knowledge and skills for future careers in high-tech fields.
As part of the program, the opening ceremony of the STEM Racing Hub—a dedicated training center designed for participants' preparation—has taken place. The new center was established to provide teams with a space for practical activities in designing, manufacturing, and refining their racing models.
Speaking at the project's presentation ceremony, the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Farid Gayibov, emphasized the significance of the initiative:
"It is gratifying that our country has become a part of this global platform. The STEM Racing program not only provides school students with technical knowledge but also creates conditions for developing essential skills such as teamwork, leadership, and project management. Many program participants later pursue degrees in engineering, work for leading technology companies, and even build careers in Formula 1. I believe our team’s participation in the world final will be a valuable experience for our country and inspire thousands of young people."
The "Caspian Apex" team, created within the scope of the program, will represent Azerbaijan in the world final for the first time. The competition will take place from October 3 to 8, 2026, in Singapore (Sentosa Island), bringing together the strongest young engineering teams from various countries around the world.
STEM Racing program participants operate in line with the working principles of Formula 1 teams. Each participant is responsible for a specific department. Using engineering software, the school students design the racing model, conduct aerodynamic calculations, manufacture parts using 3D printers, and run tests, while also managing marketing, partnerships, and presentations.
Additionally, the program plans to hold the first national STEM Racing championship in Azerbaijan in 2027. The winner of the national championship will earn the right to represent the country in the world final.
