Anar Sariyev, head coach of Azerbaijan's U-20 men's basketball team, has commented on the victory over Switzerland in the 9-16 placement match of the European Championship (Division B).
According to Offsideplus.az, the specialist stated that the team deserved to show better results in the group stage, but misfortune in attack prevented this from happening. He explained the turnaround in the match against Switzerland:
"Switzerland was a physically strong opponent, and we were somewhat hasty in the first half. However, in the second half, the boys regrouped and showed great determination on the court. I don't want to single anyone out; both the starting lineup and every player who came off the bench gave their maximum effort, and we achieved a victory that we fully deserved."
The head coach also spoke about the team's next goals:
"This victory keeps our chances alive to compete for 9th to 12th places. Our next opponent will be Bosnia and Herzegovina. We will analyse the opponent carefully and prepare accordingly. The victories we have achieved in the European Championship are not just for the players and coaches, but for the entire Azerbaijani basketball family."
