"Starting a match for the first time in a long while meant a lot to me. I really enjoyed being able to help my teammates," said Azerbaijani forward Mahir Emreli in an interview with the renowned German outlet BILD.
According to Offsideplus.az, the 27-year-old, who plays for German 2. Bundesliga side Nürnberg, played the full 90 minutes in the team’s 2-1 away win against Kaiserslautern on April 12 and scored the decisive second goal in the 68th minute.
"We knew it would be a tough match. Other players had warned that the fans in Kaiserslautern could decide the outcome of the game. But we were well-prepared both mentally and tactically," Emreli stated.
Emreli emphasized the importance of the victory: "I hope this win gives us even more confidence in the upcoming matches. If we’re mentally prepared, there’s no team in the league that we can’t beat."
Currently, Nürnberg sit 7th in the 2. Bundesliga table with 44 points. According to league rules, the top two teams earn direct promotion to the Bundesliga, while the third-place finisher enters a playoff with the team that finishes 16th in the top flight.
