These words were shared with Offsideplus.az by Rasul Chunayev, World Champion and Olympic medalist in Greco-Roman wrestling from the Rio Games.

He shared his thoughts regarding the Azerbaijan Wrestling Championship:

“It is evident that the leadership of the Wrestling Federation has devoted special attention to this championship. A series of important steps have been taken to enhance the prestige of the Azerbaijan Championship. The competition was organized on the level of European and World Championships. While speaking about the event, I would also like to highlight the support of wrestling fans. I believe that the athletes who stood out in this championship will make us proud with their future successes on the international arena.”

The veteran wrestler also emphasized that there are many potential athletes among the youth:

“It has been four years since I ended my career as an athlete. However, my involvement in sports continues. We are working towards the development of mass sports and the nurturing of new champions. Today, successors must rise and achieve even more results than we did. I am ready to fulfill my duty in this regard.”
