Sunderland defender Dennis Cirkin has received a call-up to the Latvia national team.
According to Offsideplus.az, although he is currently unable to participate in official matches due to the ongoing sporting nationality change process, the player has agreed to join the team's training camp in March.
The Ireland-born full-back, whose father has Turkish-Azerbaijani roots, was previously linked with the Azerbaijan national team. However, he has ultimately decided to represent Latvia, his parents' homeland, at the international level.
The Latvian Football Federation stated that legal formalities are expected to be finalized shortly. Cirkin is anticipated to make his debut in the Nations League matches against Armenia, provided that Latvia defeats Gibraltar in the March play-offs.
It is worth noting that the 23-year-old left-back, who has also represented England at youth levels, has recorded 8 goals and 7 assists in 125 career appearances.
