Azerbaijan's national football team defeated Saint Lucia 6-1 as part of the "FIFA Series – 2026" international tournament.
Offsideplus.az reports that following the match, head coach Aykhan Abbasov commented on the victory in a flash interview with CBC Sport:
"First of all, I want to thank the fans who didn't leave us alone in this rainy weather. This was our first match. We know what we are preparing for. The team must improve from game to game. Training camps are vital for us. The weather and pitch conditions were difficult, but the players did their best. We played with different lineups in both halves. We will aim to recover and secure a win in our second match. In games like this, players regain their confidence and hunger for goals. We showed this same desire even against stronger opponents. My players joined this training camp with great enthusiasm. We are also at an interesting stage in the domestic league; the competition is intense, and the players are in good form."
Regarding the upcoming match against Sierra Leone on March 30, the specialist stated: "They are a different kind of opponent—a better side than Saint Lucia. Every opponent is important to us because we have a clear objective. The stronger the opponents, the more effective these tests will be for our progress."
