After the 2–3 victory in the Misli Premier League Matchday 12 fixture between “Neftchi” and “Imishli”, the visitors’ head coach Jorj Kashkiliya shared his thoughts at the post-match press conference.
Speaking to Offsideplus.az, the Georgian manager praised his team’s performance:
“I congratulate my players — we earned a very beautiful and valuable victory. This was a reflection of our fantastic performance. Neftchi are a big opponent, but we prepared well and managed to impose our style of play. We analyzed their tactics, knew there would be spaces in the channels, and used that to our advantage. Despite the early penalty, we equalized and showed great character. Beating Neftchi away from home requires tremendous determination.”
Kashkiliya also showed respect to the opponent:
“Neftchi played well too, and I congratulate them. But today, we were the better side.”
On his team’s mentality heading into the match, he said:
“Before every game, we push the players to aim for victory. If the opponent plays stronger than us, then the goal is at least not to lose. For Imishli, every point is valuable — but three points is a fantastic result.”
When asked what Neftchi failed to do, the coach preferred to focus on his own team:
“At the start of the season, we had to build an entirely new team. Back then, Imishli was very different. Four months have passed and the players have now found their playing identity. This is not the first time we’ve scored three goals against a big team. Our ambitions are higher — we want to play attacking football.”
Kashkiliya explained why he substituted both foreign strikers in the closing stages:
“It wasn’t about settling for a draw. Almeyda and Juninho had run a lot throughout the match. We needed fresh energy physically and mentally. Neftchi always create many chances late in the game, so the changes were necessary.”
The coach also noted that major transfer activity in winter is unlikely:
“Signing players in winter is difficult, especially for a club like ours. We don’t have the budget of Qarabağ or Neftchi. We’re not targeting the top four or European competitions. Our main goal is to build stability. So no, we’re not planning winter transfers — we want to maximize the current squad.”
Discussing their approach to the national cup competition, he added:
“We prepare to win every match. Sabah are the favorites. They know that if we can beat Neftchi, then they must prepare even more carefully. Our aim is simply to progress from game to game.”
