Tomorrow, Qarabag FK will compete in their final match of the UEFA Champions League league phase.

According to Offsideplus.az, their opponent this time is the formidable Liverpool FC. Given their historic pedigree, Liverpool may well be the strongest opponent Qarabag has faced to date.

The Agdam-based side has played eight matches against English clubs so far, though the overall record remains challenging. Under Gurban Gurbanov’s leadership, the team has managed only one draw in these encounters. Their history against English opposition began with Tottenham Hotspur:

2015/2016 Season, UEFA Europa League (Group Stage):

  • Tottenham 3–1 Qarabag (Richard Almeida opened the scoring in London, but the hosts fought back to win).

  • Qarabag 0–1 Tottenham

2017/2018 Season, UEFA Champions League (Group Stage):

  • Chelsea 6–0 Qarabag

  • Qarabag 0–4 Chelsea

2018/2019 Season, UEFA Europa League (Group Stage):

  • Qarabag 0–3 Arsenal

  • Arsenal 1–0 Qarabag

2024/2025 Season, UEFA Europa League (League Phase):

  • Tottenham 3–0 Qarabag

The only point earned against an English side came during the current season. In the fourth round of the Champions League league phase, Gurbanov's men secured a 2–2 draw against Chelsea. Leandro Andrade and Marko Janković were the goalscorers for the Azerbaijani champions in that historic result.

Tomorrow, Qarabag will step onto the pitch for their ninth—and perhaps most vital—encounter against English opposition. All eyes will be on Anfield to see if the Horsemen can return home with the result they need.
