The U-17 Beach Wrestling World Championship, held for the first time in Baku, has concluded with a historic success for the Azerbaijani team.
According to Offsideplus.az, nearly 150 athletes from over 30 countries competed in the tournament, which took place at the Sea Breeze Recreation Centre. Under the guidance of head coach Oyan Nazariani and coach Ibrahim Yusubov, the Azerbaijani team finished the competition with a total of 8 medals.
Our athletes Elcan Hasanov (60 kg) and Nihad Suleymanli (80 kg) emerged victorious against all their opponents, becoming world champions. Elirza Heybatli (60 kg), Elgun Kerimli (90 kg), and Rana Nuriyeva (65 kg) secured silver medals, while Tunar Guliyev (70 kg), Ruslan Valiyev (80 kg), and Simura Abdullayeva (75 kg) claimed bronze medals.
Our female wrestlers accumulated 54 points with 1 silver and 1 bronze medal, earning the title of world champions in the team standings. This marks the first such achievement for Azerbaijani beach wrestling among girls. In the women's competition, the USA (53 points) finished second, while Japan (52 points) took third place.
In the boys' competition, our team collected 85 points with 2 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze medals. The Iranian team, which also scored the same points, secured first place based on additional criteria, with Azerbaijan in second and Senegal (32 points) in third.
