Mikayil Jabbarov has been elected president of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation (AWF) for the second time.

The general meeting of the organization held today was attended by the president of the federation Mikayil Jabbarov, vice-president Namig Aliyev, members of the Executive Committee Namig Abdullayev, Farid Mansurov, Vasif Mammadov, first vice-president of the National Olympic Committee Chingiz Huseynzade, head of the Sports Department of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Elnur Mammadov, as well as members of the federation.
The event was organized to discuss the activities of the AWF over the past 4 years and the work to be done in the field of wrestling, as well as to hold elections to the Executive Committee.
At the meeting, AWF President Mikayil Jabbarov noted the work done under the leadership of the head of state to develop sports, including wrestling, to cultivate young talents, and to further increase the professionalism and international successes of our athletes.
After determining the quorum at the meeting, the members of the mandate commission and the members of the General Assembly were approved. Then, the report of the Secretary General of the AGF Parvin Piriyev was heard. He spoke about the work done in the federation over the past 4 years and the results achieved.
Noting that the Greco-Roman Wrestling World Cup, the European Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Paris-2024 and the U-23 European Championship were held at a high level in Baku during this period, the Secretary General said that 1031 medals were won in various international competitions in 2022-2025. Of these, 293 were gold, 292 were silver, and 446 were bronze medals.
National teams have repeatedly taken part in the top "three" in European and world championships in various age groups. Our Greco-Roman wrestlers won the title of the strongest team in the world in 2023 and 2024.
Various infrastructure projects were implemented to strengthen the material and technical base of wrestling. Intensive propaganda work was also carried out to increase the popularity. Master classes with the participation of titled wrestlers, and nationwide seminars were organized to improve the knowledge and skills of coaches. In order to form a strong legacy, special attention was paid to the development of wrestling in lower age groups. This contributed to achieving great successes in the U-15 and U-17 age groups.
Voting for the position of AGF president was held at the event. Mikayil Jabbarov was re-elected as the president of the federation for the next 4 years. Namig Aliyev, a member of the Bureau of the World Wrestling Union (UWW), was once again elected as vice-president. The members of the Executive Committee were also determined by voting: Mikayil Jabbarov, Namig Aliyev, Namig Abdullayev, Farid Mansurov, Vasif Mammadov.
Chingiz Huseynzade and Elnur Mammadov spoke about the projects implemented in our country to develop sports and the opportunities created for athletes to achieve success at the international level.
In his closing speech, Mikayil Jabbarov outlined the goals and directions of action for the next 4 years and wished the wrestlers new successes in training and competitions.
