The final competition in men's figure skating was held at the XXV Winter Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy.
Offsideplus.az reports that 24 athletes performed in the free program. The first place was taken by the Kazakh athlete Mikhail Shaidorov with a total score of 291.58 points. Thus, Kazakhstan won the gold medal in figure skating for the first time in its history and the first gold medal at the Winter Olympic Games since 1994.
The second and third places were taken by Japanese athletes Yuma Kagiyama (290.06 points) and Shun Sato (274.90 points), respectively. Kagiyama, who won his 4th Olympic medal, became the Japanese figure skater who won the most medals at the Olympics.
The most memorable and first place short program skater (108.16 points) of the US skater Ilya Malinin had a less successful free program (156.33 points). The 21-year-old athlete finished the Olympics in 8th place with a total of 264.49 points. He made history by performing backflip, which had been banned since 1974 and was lifted only 2 years ago.
It should be noted that the representative of Azerbaijan Vladimir Litvinstev, with a performance of 63.63 points in the short program, came in last - 29th and could not make it to the final stage.
