The Azerbaijan U-20 national team defeated Japan in a goalless friendly match, winning 5-4 in a penalty shootout.

In the post-match press conference, our head coach Rui Jorge addressed the media.

- There was a noticeable lack of physical fitness among the players. Are you discussing this with their clubs?

- We are at the beginning of our journey, which is normal. We made rotations in the squad. I demand intensity from my players. It is normal for them to be tired at the end of the game.

- The players are not getting chances in the Premier League. Are you talking to the head coaches of the teams about this?

- I cannot interfere in the clubs' affairs. Some players are playing for the reserve and U-19 teams. Complaining alone will not solve the issue. There are players who are of good quality.

- Unlike the game against Moldova, there were no serious mistakes in defence today. How did you rectify this in such a short time?

- In the match against Moldova, we made more mistakes in defence than in attack.

- Are you more pleased with not conceding a goal, or disappointed that you couldn't score?

- I am satisfied with both. Even if the attack does not work, it is important to protect the defence. There should be no fear in attack either.

- If the players you like had played on natural pitches from the start, would they have been of the same quality as in Portugal?

- It is difficult to say. Conditions, the pitch factor, and so on help players a lot. They have the opportunity to develop continuously.

- Will the naturalised players in the U-21 team be called up?

- I will consider all of them. I am passionate about my current players; they deserve to be in the national team. Of course, there will also be a limit.

- What do you think about Ali Bashirov?

- He is a very talented player. He is not behind his peers in Europe. He is invited to all training camps. The key factor is not age, but quality. Every player must work on themselves.
