The Azerbaijan national team played to a goalless draw against Liechtenstein in the Nations League.

After the match, head coach Ayxan Abbasov addressed journalists at the press conference. He shared his thoughts on the game:

"We wanted to win. Unfortunately, it didn't happen and our situation was difficult. We couldn't take advantage of the goal-scoring opportunities that arose. Now we won't look for a scapegoat; we will prepare for the next matches."

— The opponent's players were not professional and played in other fields. What should our players do to be more successful?

— You are all right. Liechtenstein had to win. I don't think it's worth discussing whether the opponent was professional or not. However, we underperformed our potential, and everyone saw that. The way to improve is to win against Lithuania in the next match.

— If the management sends you away, will you refuse to resign?

— Our contract is valid. We came here to work and we won't shy away from responsibility. Whatever decision the management makes, I will accept it. Time will show everything.

— From the start of the game, there was tension among the players. This was especially noticeable with Vusal. What was the reason?

— Vusal, you probably don't watch closely. Our attacks were thwarted. The difference in this team is that it is well-defended, as I mentioned yesterday. Vusal is always aggressive.

— How difficult is it to prepare the team psychologically for the match in three days?

— It's not easy. All the responsibility is on me. We will have players who will rest in the squad.

— Since you arrived, has the team improved or weakened?

— I came to a team that had lost all its away matches. The motivation has increased, and young players have been included in the squad. However, this is not enough. We have a problem in attack, and we need time to address it. For me, or anyone else, time is crucial.

— Can you cope with this pressure psychologically?

— I came here knowing that there would be such pressures. We were aware that this would happen.

— Yesterday, our U-21 national team played. Are you satisfied with the young generation, and do you see progress in Azerbaijani football?

— We can talk a lot about this. The main issue is in the academies. This is our reality.

— The number of shots on goal is low. Only one goal has been scored in two matches. What needs to be done to beat the opponents?

— Scoring goals is not our job in the national team because time is limited. We hope that there will be shots and goals in the match against Lithuania.
