The new head coach of our U-20 national team was determined during the AFFA Executive Committee meeting held on February 19.
According to Offsideplus.az, following the completion of legal procedures, Portuguese specialist Rui Jorge has taken the helm.
The Azerbaijan U-20 national team is set to compete in the FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by our country and Uzbekistan in 2027.
A press conference with the new head coach, featuring the participation of AFFA leadership, will be held in the coming days.
Rui Jorge’s extensive coaching experience is noteworthy. He began his career with the youth and senior teams of Belenenses before moving on to lead the Portugal U-21 national team in 2010. During his 15-year tenure with that team, the specialist qualified for the European Championship final stage five times and secured silver medals in both 2015 and 2021. Furthermore, Jorge is remembered for his successful results while managing the Olympic team.
