Filipe Kandido, head coach of Sumgayit, attended the press conference following his team's victory over Araz-Nakhchivan in the eighth round of the Misli Premier League.
The Portuguese coach expressed his thoughts on the win and the match's progression:
"I am happy that we won. This result was deserved by my players. We have worked hard, and it was expected that we would improve from game to game. Admittedly, we did not start the match as we wanted. The opponent surprised us; we did not expect them to have four players in the centre. There was a certain level of comfort, and we were losing possession too often. It felt like we woke up after conceding the goal. We made changes in defence at half-time and played much better in the second half. We deserved the victory for creating so many goal opportunities."
Kandido also commented on the performance of young forward Nihad Ahmadzadeh, who scored the winning goal:
"Nihad is young; he is a kid. He wants to compete and has the desire to become a better footballer. Sometimes he makes smart decisions on the pitch. We are happy that he scored the winning goal. However, he still has a lot of work to do. He has plenty of time ahead to play, but he must prove that he deserves to be on the pitch every time. It is not easy when we lose our main forwards; we have to find alternative solutions and take risks."
Kandido also spoke about the upcoming match against Zirə, a team they have not beaten in six years:
"The opponent has a quality squad. However, since the day I started coaching, I have only focused on the next game. I was not aware of this statistic. Perhaps I will use this information to motivate my players now. Please, do not forget this statistic! Sometimes it is necessary to break such series and traditions. We will try to do that in the match against Zirə."
