The president of the Sumgayit Football Club, Riad Rafiyev, has achieved a partial victory in the long-running lawsuit against journalists Anar Shabanoglu and Ikhtiyar Asgarov.

Offsideplus.az reports that according to the information, Rafiyev had appealed to the Narimanov District Court due to unfounded and biased information published by the journalists. The court ruled to partially satisfy the claim.

According to the decision:

The founder of the “Sports.Az” website, Anar Shabanoglu, and the editor-in-chief of the “Matc.az” website, Ikhtiyar Asgarov, must declare that the information disseminated is not true, and the refutation text must be published on both their websites and personal “Facebook” accounts.
The information in question must be deleted from the said website and social media accounts.
The defendants must pay 1,000 manats each as compensation for moral damage, and a total of 2,000 manats in compensation to be directed to the YAŞAT Foundation for Riad Rafiyev’s charity.
Sumgayit FC stated that the implementation of the court decision will be monitored by the relevant authorities and will also be controlled by the Press Council and the State Agency for Media Support (MEDIA).
