Baku representative Sabah achieved a stunning victory by defeating Czech side Slavia Prague 2-0 in the group stage of the Champions League.
Playing in front of nearly 30,000 fans at the Baku Olympic Stadium, the Owls showcased their true character against a strong opponent. Although the first half ended without goals, Sabah's dominance paid off in the second half.
In such matches, the help of the "football god" is also needed. Fortunately, all the luck was on Sabah's side yesterday. The Czechs had three clear chances that did not result in goals, while our defence played confidently.
Indeed, Kahim Paris's goal in the first half was disallowed for offside. But was there really an offside? It's hard to say.
In the 49th minute, Kahim found the net within the rules, opening the scoring. Towards the end of the match – in the 88th minute – Coy-Lens Mikels dashed Slavia's hopes and confirmed the final score at 2-0!
This is not just a victory; it is a significant result that demonstrates Azerbaijani football's ambitions on the European stage. Sabah's determination, resilience, and confident play on the pitch deserve the highest praise.
Defeating one of the traditional representatives of Czech football, Slavia Prague, with two unanswered goals further highlights the potential of the Baku club. Sabah has proven that they are capable of competing not just to participate on the big stage, but to achieve results as well.
Now, all eyes turn to the next challenge. With the confidence gained from this victory, Sabah is ready to continue on their path. This night, which is a source of pride for Azerbaijani football, will remain in the memories of fans for a long time!
