Azerbaijan's U-21 national team is set to face their Scottish counterparts in the qualifying round of the European Championship.

The chairman of the Coaches Committee, Vaqif Sadygov, shared his thoughts on the match with Offsideplus.az:

"We have an U-21 national team that is developing from game to game. They fight for every inch on the pitch. We earned a point against the Czech Republic, who drew with a strong opponent, Portugal. Ahead of us are a tough away match against Scotland and a game at home against Gibraltar. Let's hope for a good result. Rashad Eyyubov needed time to implement his philosophy. The results of this work are now starting to show. The Scotland team has a new head coach appointed. However, we will see a team that fights until the end today. At every stage, we hoped that a record would be broken. This time, we are closer to that historic success. The potential in the youth is high, and we must make the most of this opportunity."

The mentioned match will kick off today at 22:30.

The experienced specialist also spoke about the performance of our senior national team:

"The game and result in Lithuania were beneficial for our team. It was clear that there would be a leadership battle between the two national teams, which is why the away match was of great importance. Although we conceded an early goal, we showed character, changed the game, and our players did not give the opponent any advantage until the end. Even if we score one goal, this result gives us hope that we will achieve maximum results in both matches in Baku. We believe that Ayxan Abbasov and his team will secure a positive result. There is a noticeable positive psychological change in the players, and the main intention of the team is to win."

Sadygov also commented on the players called up to the squad:

"It would not be right for us to interfere in the coach's work. We must respect Ayxan Abbasov's decisions. He knows the potential of each player better than we do. The head coach is not only thinking about today but is also taking steps to form the future team. These steps are taken gradually and cautiously."

It is worth noting that the match against Liechtenstein will take place at the Republican Stadium named after Tofiq Bahramov, with the kick-off scheduled for tomorrow at 20:00.
