The Azerbaijan national team played their first match in League D of the Nations League yesterday. Ayxan Abbasov's squad returned from a tough trip to Lithuania with just one point.

Aslan Kerimov shared his thoughts on the match and the team's chances in the group with Offsideplus.az:

"Of course, it would have been better to have a victory and three points to be satisfied. However, we had discussed beforehand that this match would be challenging, considering the potential of both teams. They are a strong side. The game demonstrated that. If we break the match down into parts, there were times when we did not play very well. Our opponent started more aggressively, which allowed them to win a penalty. In some phases of the first half, we looked better and could have attacked more. There were times when we were effective. Yes, could we have converted that effectiveness into goals? Of course, it was possible, and we had chances to score. The opponent was not weak either; the Lithuanians created goal threats in front of our goal. Perhaps we could attribute the second half to us, while the first half belonged to the Lithuanians. In the end, considering the overall game, it was evenly matched. We can defeat this team in Baku. I also assess our chances of being group leaders highly."

It is worth noting that the Azerbaijan national team will face Liechtenstein on October 1 and Lithuania again on October 4, with both matches taking place in Baku.
