Following Qarabag's defeat to Twente, head coach Qurban Qurbanov faced unjust criticism from non-football figures.
Aqil Abbas, a member of the National Assembly who has never hidden his support for Qarabag and sympathy for Qurbanov, provided a statement to Offsideplus.az:
"This is football. There are wins and there are losses. Brazil lost 7-1 to Germany in 2014. Qarabag is still forming as a team. Let's consider that they were left with 10 players. Turning your back when the team loses is uncivilised. True support should be shown now. Qurban Qurbanov has revolutionised football in the country."
He also commented on Qarabag's impact on the development of football in the country:
"Qarabag has created conditions for the development of Sabah. Notice how teams are getting stronger - Zira, Neftchi, and Turan Tovuz are all improving. The football will be more interesting, and the championship will be better. Last week, 14,000 people attended the game of Kəpəz in Ganja. This is how football is loved."
