"Gediminas Orelik, a Lithuanian basketball player for LANDAU Lions, has spoken to AzB.az about the challenges of starting the season with a defeat, his serious injury, and his arrival in Baku.

- You lost to Sabah in your first match. What happened, especially in the final period?

- I think the reason we lost is that we are still trying to find our game. We haven't played many matches before the season, so we are still getting to know each other. But we will improve as the season progresses.

- This is your second season with LANDAU Lions. What role has the head coach assigned to you this season, and will you be the main leader in the dressing room?

- Yes, this is my second season here, and I am happy to be part of this team and organisation. My role will be the same as last season – to strive for victory, help the team win, and support the development of young players. But my main goal is to help achieve as many victories as possible.

- You have played for clubs like Lietkabelis, Banvit, and Beşiktaş. How did the opportunity with LANDAU Lions come about, and what was the main factor that brought you to Baku?

- As you know, I am getting older. Before coming to LANDAU Lions, I was considering staying in Europe. However, there is a lot of pressure and other factors in Europe. I decided to try something different in my career, and coming here was a very good decision for me. I really like our coaching staff. They are all great people, and we have become friends. I hope that even after my career ends, we will remain friends.

- You suffered a serious injury while playing in Venice in 2018 at the peak of your career. How difficult was it for you to return to a high level after that injury?

- It was very difficult. Not physically, but more psychologically. I hadn't played for two and a half years, and it was tough to come back. But I knew I could do it, and I wanted to show many people who I am.

- You are a product of the Lithuanian basketball school and have played for the national team at all age levels. What advice do you give to the young Azerbaijani basketball players in your team?

- Just keep working hard, believe in yourselves, and never give up on what you want to do in life. Be smart and patient. Your time will definitely come.
