Offsideplus.az reports that,  in 1992, on the night of February 25 to 26 the Armenian armed forces with the help of the Russian 366th Motor Rifle Regiment occupied the town of Khojaly, the local civilians - committed genocide against Azerbaijanis.

 

Armenian armed forces attacked Khojaly on February 25, 1992 with the help of armored vehicles and military personnel of the 366th Motorized Rifle Regiment stationed in Khankendi since the Soviet era. 2,500 residents of the besieged city moved in the direction of Agdam to escape. However, the Armenians ambushed and shot the civilians. As a result of the Khojaly genocide, 613 Khojaly residents, including 63 children, 106 women, 70 elderly people, were killed, 8 families were completely destroyed, 25 children lost both parents and 130 children lost one parent. 487 people, including 76 children, were wounded by enemy bullets. 1275 people were taken prisoner. The fate of 150 hostages, including 68 women and 26 children, is still unknown.

The anniversary of the Khojaly genocide is sadly celebrated every year in Azerbaijan and many countries around the world. Every year, on February 26, Azerbaijani embassies and diaspora organizations organize commemorative ceremonies and conferences in the countries where they operate. At these events, photo stands reflecting the atrocities committed by Armenians in Khojaly, documentaries, and books reflecting the realities of the genocide are exhibited.
