George Russell, the British driver for Mercedes, has commented on his victory in the qualifying session for the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

The 28-year-old secured pole position by outpacing his rivals by 0.837 seconds, sharing his impressions:

"It hasn't happened for a long time - it's great to be back at the top. This is probably the biggest advantage of my career, including my time in Formula 2 and Formula 3.

Our last lap was absolutely perfect. The car performed excellently throughout the weekend. When everything comes together on such a track, the feelings are just amazing. I set an ideal lap at the end of the session. I was following Izak Adjar at a suitable distance, which gave me a slight slipstream advantage. I believe that’s why I gained an extra couple of tenths on the back straight. Everything came together perfectly."

It is worth noting that the main race of the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix will take place tomorrow.
