According to Offsideplus.az, this was caused by the situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the decision of the Operational Headquarters under the Cabinet of Ministers, international competitions and mass sports events are not allowed to be held indoors in Azerbaijan.

The International Judo Federation (IJF) has already decided to announce the list of competitions to be held before the Tokyo Summer Olympics. As it is the year of the Olympics, the IJF has called for the competitions to be awarded as soon as possible. The Grand Slam, held in Baku every May, is not included in the list.

It should be noted that the traditional competition, which earned license points for the 2020 Olympics, was canceled due to a coronavirus pandemic.

It should be noted that the Grand Slam was organized in Baku in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019.
